'It would be good to start winning again'

Even though Giedo van der Garde is leading the World Series by Renault championship with an enourmous lead the Dutchman did not win a race lately. After a strong weekend at the Nurburgring where Giedo failed to finish on the podium due to pitstop problems he is now ready to fight for a race win again at Le Mans.

At Le Mans Van der Garde could, in theory, claim the World Series by Renault title. But he prefers to focus on his own result before starting to calculate the best scenario's.

Van der Garde: “What happened at the Nurburgring is a shame but we can't change that now. If you look back at the weekend in Germany you'll see we had a great weekend. Qualifying in pole position, finishing third in the first race and completing a great second race apart from the pitstop. In Le Mans I will fight for victory again. It's a great circuit and I have great memories of the track as I started from pole there in Formula Three.

“I realise I could claim the championship this weekend but that isn't really on my mind. Jousse is second and I'm sure he won't do anything silly. We just need to work hard ourselves and score as many points as possible to keep our big lead in the championship.”

Van der Garde is currently in the lead with 114 points. Jousse is in second with 67 points.
